Following a 78-64 win over Kwara Falcons in the semi-finals, Rivers Hoopers will play against Raptors in the final of the NBBF President Cup on Sunday.
Abdul Yahaya scored a double-double finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. Yahaya added four assists, three steals and one block to go with it.
Yahaya’s frontcourt mate Victor Anthony finished with a game high 16 points and eight rebounds, Buchi Nwaiwu shot 11 points while Emmanuel Balogun added 10 points.
Hoopers shot 55.1 percent from the field, 9/16 from the free throw line and made five three pointers in the game.
It was not the prettiest of game for Kwara Falcons who shot 22 against 40 scored by Hoopers at the end of the first half. Hoopers pulled away with 4:17 left in the third quarter (52-29) leaving Falcons to play catch up for the remaining part of the game.
Mustapha Oyebanji (14), Tano Emuhowo (12) and Godwin David (10) were the three players who reached double figures for Kwara Falcons.
Head coach Ogoh Odaudu shared his thoughts with Hooper’s media after the game.
“I knew it was going to be a difficult game. Kwara are well coached like I said earlier Baba Jibril is my former team mate on the national team and at club level so I know what they could do. It is just that the talent level on my team surpassed what they had,” Odaudu said.
Odaudu said he will not underrate Raptors Basketball Club in the final on Sunday.
“I am really impressed with the Raptors team they have surpassed all odds and reached the final. Nobody ever thought they would get this far. For a team like that to get to the final, it should tell you that they are a team not to be underrated.”
Earlier, Raptors beat Niger Potters 84-81 in a nail-biting semi-final game on Saturday.
